My first podcast in 3 months - thank you, COVID19 -  I stumbled across an old sermon from 1996, preached on Father's Day, wondering about "God the Father".  The Gospel is Matthew 9:35-10:8 and although I wouldn't give the sermon high marks for exegisis*, the Gospel does get a mention.... 

 

*Exegisis - fancy word for critical examination of text.  Who says that my degree in Classical Greek was a waste of time??

Rev. Seli woke up very early on Easter morning and had a sudden inspiration to make sense of the past 3 days... unscripted, Norm connects Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday in an "Easter Cycle" that embraces humanity, divine relationship and real change.  Or it's just 38 minutes of early morning incoherence. We're hoping for the former, even as we apologize for the latter.   Happy Easter!  

Rev. Norm Seli spends some time wondering if God has abandoned us and how we might see Jesus in our current time and place.  He considers the words of the Prophet Jeremiah as well as the Gospel of John.   (Spoiler:  Norm sees Jesus)

Rev. Norm Seli wonders about hope in this "Time of Covid" - perusing the thoughts of Paul (Romans 5:1-5); the acts of Jesus (Luke 7:11-17) and a story about the prophet Elijah (1 Kings 17:8-16)... can we be hopeful? And how, exactly do we do that? 

Rev. Norm Seli wonders about an encounter with Jesus and tries to answer his question "Who do you say that I am?"  (Matthew 16:13ff)

Rev. Norm Seli considers Nicodemus' visit with Jesus (John 3: 1-17) and wonders what it might mean to be "Born from Above" or "Born Again".    Could it be as simple as he thinks? 

Rev. Norm Seli enters into Lent by connecting the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2,3) Jesus' temptation in the desert (Matthew 4: 1-11) and Communion and wonders about science, life, temptation, dancing and the matrix of life - you know, simple stuff.
